Detox Programs

At Aurora Vista del Mar Hospital, medical detoxification is provided for adults only in our inpatient Dual Diagnosis track for the following addictive substances:

  • Alcohol
  • Benzodiazepine
  • Opiates

Medical detoxification for adults only is accomplished by gradually withdrawing the individual from the addictive substance by the administration of appropriate medication, under the care of a physician. These medications prevent or reduce the withdrawal symptoms, which may occur when a drug or alcohol is stopped suddenly. While undergoing detoxification, the individual will attend therapeutic groups. These groups educate the individual about the effects of substance use and teach relapse prevention techniques. The individual also works with the treatment team to develop a comprehensive discharge plan.

Treatment Team

We believe a team approach is the most effective method to deliver quality care. The treatment team is led by a psychiatrist and often includes a licensed therapist, psychiatric nurse, activity/recreational therapist, clinical social worker, and mental health counselors. The treatment team offers not only their clinical expertise and experience, but also their concern and compassion.
