Psychiatric Services for Adults

The Adult Psychiatric Programs at Vista del Mar provide individualized treatment care plans making it possible for patients to transition smoothly between treatment levels as their needs evolve. By providing intensive care, our multi-disciplinary team establishes a structured and supportive environment where patients learn to identify problem areas and develop solutions. Combined with education and therapy, patients build skills for improved mental health and quality community living.

Inpatient Treatment

The Adult Program is a highly structured and comprehensive treatment program for adults with acute psychiatric illness. Inpatient care is designed to stabilize patients as rapidly as possible and return them to an improved level of functioning. Our integrated treatment team includes psychiatrists, registered nurses, social workers, psychotherapists, dieticians, mental health workers and recreational therapists work closely with each patient to assess his or her progress and determine treatment goals. Group and recreational therapies as well as patient education, are offered daily. A secure unit serves to provide patient safety suited to their varying needs for intensity of intervention, structure and supervision. Case managers provide discharge services and arrange follow-up care in the community that is individualized for the special needs of each patient.

Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Services

Vista del Mar's Dual Diagnosis Program is designed to treat voluntary patients diagnosed with either psychiatric illness or dual diagnosis (mental illness compounded by chemical dependency). Treatment on the unit may include medically supervised detoxification upon admission leading to a comprehensive treatment program for both diagnoses. Psychiatrists, registered nurses, specialized chemical dependency counselors, social workers, psychologists, dieticians and activity therapists are involved with developing an individualized treatment plan. Special attention is given to discharge planning and continuation of care to assist patients in their ongoing recovery process.

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program

The Partial Hospitalization Program is designed to treat chemical dependency and psychiatric illness simultaneously on an outpatient basis. This is a two track program with the psychiatric track focusing on mental illness and the dual diagnosis track treating those who struggle with psychiatric illness compounded by chemical dependency. This program gives patients the opportunity to receive intensive, structured treatment during the day and return home in the evening. Patients participate five days a week in a therapeutic setting where they receive education, group and individual counseling. To remain in this program, patients must be abstinent from drugs and alcohol, and are given tools to help them maintain their sobriety. Patients must also be medically stable before admission, and have a willingness to work the program with outside support systems.

Treatment Team

We believe a team approach is the most effective method to deliver quality care. The treatment team is led by a psychiatrist and often includes a licensed therapist, psychiatric nurse, activity/recreational therapist, clinical social worker, and mental health counselors. The treatment team offers not only their clinical expertise and experience, but also their concern and compassion.
