Cleansing the soul and harmonizing mind, body, and spirit can complement the care our patients receive and bring happiness, success, and a sense of hope to their healing process.
Our facility has a Chaplain on staff Sunday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Patients can meet privately with our ordained Chaplin wherever they feel most comfortable, receiving care tailored to each individual’s specific needs. In addition, patients can participate in optional group sessions to share in and support each other’s healing journey. Spiritual support is offered complimentary to in-house and partially hospitalized patients.
Our Spiritual Approach to Healing and Wholeness
It is our mission at Vista Del Mar Hospital to:
- Provide spiritual healing to those who seek it while remaining inclusive to all faiths;
- Honor each individual’s spiritual perspective;
- Provide readily available chaplain services; and
- Focus on mind-body-spirit integration for the purpose of wholeness.
Caring for spiritual needs allows each patient to be better grounded during recovery for renewal and healing. Our hands-on approach allows patients to receive a daily check-in from our Chaplain, who visits each floor daily to meet with patients and provide counsel when requested. Through this ongoing and immediately available contact, it is our goal to promote restoration and healing from within.
Spiritual Support Themes and Topics
Our spiritual healing support includes individualized care based on each patient’s needs as well as group unit-based sessions, covering topics such as:
- Self improvement
- Self worth
Healing begins from within. Our spiritual self-improvement discussions promote alignment between intent and will, helping patients to empower themselves to move beyond the limitations that prevent spiritual and psychological growth.
The journey to inner peace is often a difficult one to navigate. Through spiritual healing and a focus on wholeness, patients can achieve a level of intentional self-acceptance that eliminates stress and chaos despite the circumstances occurring around them.
Spiritual counseling to heal and restore the image of oneself encourages each patient to recognize and embrace the qualities that make them unique. We work with patients to uncover the root cause of their inability to see their own worth, and then discuss and discard those negative triggers so the patient can begin to value themselves.
We believe every person has a purpose, and our purpose theme centers on encouraging our patients to find theirs. Through discussions and self-discovery exercises, we help each patient define their unique meaning and learn how to apply their purpose in their everyday lives.
The success of spiritual healing relies on each patient exhibiting the confidence that they can overcome their current state and complete the healing process. Confidence isn’t achievable by our own powers; rather, it transcends basic human will and is possible only through something greater than ourselves. Patients focus on establishing principles and learning how to apply them to other situations.
Healing is the desired alleviation from hurting, but patients cannot begin to heal until they can forgive or be forgiven. At times, spiritual growth and restoration is necessary before forgiveness can be granted. We help patients to understand how spirituality can shape their values and concerns so that healing and forgiveness can be possible.
Wholeness is defined as existing as a total sum. By joining mind, body, and spirit into one, patients can begin to heal in every area and emerge stronger than their individual parts. The path to spiritual healing and wholeness often travels through the most difficult places of a patient’s life, but can be a crucial step toward restoration.
